A dear friend got married this weekend (see some photos here) and my friend Michelle and I decided to go in together on a gift. We wanted it to be something fun and personal and Michelle came up with the cutest idea, which she agreed to let me share here with you.

The first year of marriage is such an amazing one (I say, with so much knowledge, since my one year anniversary was March 4th…) and this is a gift that really celebrates that. We put together a gift consisting of a special date for each season. This is a wholly adaptable gift that can be tailored based on your budget and the interests of the couple. Here is what we put together:

Spring

Here in Massachusetts, spring always comes as such a relief after the cold, grey winter. What better way to celebrate that than with a romantic picnic? For this date, we picked out a fun quilted picnic blanket and picked up melamine plates and plastic wine glasses to coordinate.

Summer

Our friends are an out-doorsy and adventurous pair, so for the summer date, we got them a gift card to Surfari in Manchester, MA for a paddle board rental.

——————

Autumn

Apple picking is the quintessential autumn activity in New England, as is eating cider donuts, so we picked up a gift card for a local farm in North Andover for their picking and eating pleasure.

Winter

There are a lot of fun things to do around Massachusetts in the winter, but sometimes, a romantic dinner at a cozy restaurant is just what the doctor ordered. We picked out a lovely Mediterranean restaurant in Andover called Yelle, which we’ve heard great things about.

Part of the fun of this gift is tailoring it to what you think the couple will enjoy and wrapping it up creatively. I had so much fun with this wrapping project and hope our friends enjoy their year of dates!

What is your favorite creative gift you’ve ever given or received?

Making this for our friends’ wedding right now. Feels nice to be able to give something that involves putting some “love” into. I’m sure the bride will appreciate it as she mentioned this week that she doesn’t know what she’ll once the wedding is over. Thanks for the great idea!!!
