I recently was introduced a really interesting online personal shopping service similar to Birchbox but for clothes. It’s called Stitch Fix. Now, I’m probably not the target client because I really enjoy shopping for myself and finding unique interesting pieces on my own; however, I’ve found pieces through Stitch Fix that I never would have thought to try on myself and then loved! I’ve also found that each time I get a fix (they send five pieces at a time), they’ve targeted my style a bit better. When you are returning, you can give item-by-item feedback in order to let them better understand what you’re looking for.
I just got my most recent fix this weekend and thought I’d share it with you. I styled each piece in two ways (one more casual and one more dressy) with existing pieces of my wardrobe. I’d love input from you, dear reader, about which pieces would make great additions to my closet!
I love their branding and the personalized notes in each fix.
Piece 1: Cobalt Blue Midi Skirt
Look 1: Shirt: Lands’ End Canvas//Scarf: J.Crew Factory//Shoes: Indigo by Clarks
Look 2: Shirt: Brooks Brothers (thrifted for $2!)//Belt: J.Crew//Shoes: Sofft
Piece 2: Coral Racerback Blouse (and Piece 3: Envelope Clutch)
Look 1: Skirt: Ruche//Belt: J.Crew//Shoes: Franco Sarto
Look 2: Pants: J.Crew//Shoes: Kenneth Cole (old)//Scarf: Gift
Piece 4: Black Silk Smock-waisted Shorts
Look 1: Top and Necklace: Forever 21//Shoes: Old Navy
Look 2: Top and Belt: Target//Shoes: Old Navy
Piece 5: Striped Halter Blouse
Look 1: Blazer: Target//Pants: Old Navy//Shoes: Lands’ End Canvas
Look 2: Pants: H&M (thrifted)//Shoes: Old Navy
As you can probably tell from my body language and facial expression, I really don’t like the striped shirt on me. Also, the shorts photograph pretty well but on my body shape they are wildly unflattering in person. I need more structured bottoms because of my wider hips. That being said, I really like the coral shirt, the blue skirt, and the purse. In the comments, let me know what you think I should keep!

After about six years of coveting and one year of serious research and saving, this weekend I finally bought myself a digital SLR camera! After much thought and reading (too many) reviews, I chose the Nikon D5100. Verdict is: I LOVE it! I love taking photos and a year without a functional camera was a bummer. I was up at my parents’ house in Maine this weekend so I had a good chance to play around with the camera. It’s been so long since I’ve had a camera with any level of manual controls (the last one was film) so I anticipate a learning curve with this one. I thought I’d share some of my favorite photos from the weekend. These are completely unedited in case you are interested in the camera and want to see what it can do!
Happy Memorial Day!

I had a request on my last outfit post to share how I did my hair so I put together a quick video. Not sure what was going on with the funky colors, sorry about that. This is a super flexible hair-do. I wear it a lot and it’s very versatile: on the beach or dressed up (in fact, I wore it for my wedding. See the photo below!) Hope this video helps! Let me know if you have any questions.

Until last year, I had no ability to paint my own fingernails. I painted my toe nails frequently, but any time I painted my fingernails two things happened:
- They looked terrible. Really, truly terrible.
- I felt like I was wearing ping pong balls on the tips of my fingers. I felt like I couldn’t type, open door knobs, or even put my hair in a ponytail.
As a teacher, however, I realized that painting my nails allowed me to express a bit more of my personality in a still school appropriate way. Now, I’m totally addicted. Today I’m going to share with you my current top five nail colors for the season….and I’ve managed to combine them into only 3 manicures!
Revlon Colorstay in Marmalade//Sephora by OPI in Havana Dreams//Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Kook-a-Mango//Revlon Nail Enamel in Minted//Sally Hansen Salon Effects in Cut It Out
I am loving bold oranges and reds as well as soft minty pastels for spring. That and accent nails top my list currently. Though some of these look pretty similar in the bottles, they look very different on my fingers. So without further ado…
…the manicures:
Clockwise from top left:
- Marmalade
- Minted with Cut It Out on thumbs
- Kook-a-Mango with Havana Dreams on ring fingers
What is your favorite spring nail color?
